What is carrageenan?
Carrageenan is an ingredient derived fr.om red seaweed and is commonly used as a thickener or stabilizing agent in dairy foods such as ice cream and yogurt. Carrageenan is also commonly used as a binder in deli meats to help prevent meat from falling apart when sliced, particularly those made with poultry.
