I’ve noticed a price increase on my favorite APPLEGATE® products, can you explain why?
A: It’s important to note that Applegate Farms doesn’t decide the price you see at the store, the retailer does. Applegate sets a list price for retailers, who then determine the final price at shelf. For nearly three years (October 2018), Applegate did not increase list prices to our retailers, even though the costs that go into making our products have steadily risen. In 2021, we made the difficult decision to raise prices on most of our products in order to maintain our Applegate humanely raised, organic and 100% natural ingredient standards and ensure we remain fair to our partners up and down the supply chain.
What’s driving up costs?
A: Several major factors are driving the price increase, including rising costs for labor, meat prices and animal feed, as well as packaging and transportation.
When did the price increase take effect?
A: The price change took effect beginning Monday, August 16, 2021.
Are all APPLEGATE® products affected?
A: Applegate features a large assortment of products in more than nine different categories coming from different supply chains. Most of the price increases were driven by rising costs within those supply chains, causing some product lines to receive more price pressure than others. That’s why some prices went up and others did not.
Three product lines will not have price increases: Dinner Sausage, Organic Pork Bacon, and 4 oz. Pepperoni.
Will the price on my favorite APPLEGATE® products go down?
A: It’s important to note that Applegate doesn’t decide the price you see at the store, the retailer does. Applegate sets a list price for retailers, who then determine the final price at shelf. We will not reduce prices, because we price our products so that they can be financially sustainable at every step along the value chain – from farm to final product delivery. The food we produce comes from a specialized supply chain – Applegate humanely raised animals raised with no antibiotics ever and produced with simple, clean ingredients. The price increase helps us be fair to our partners up and down the supply chain and progress our mission: Changing The Meat We Eat®.
