We understand there is confusion and concern behind this question and wanted to clarify it for our consumers.
There is simply not enough organic, non-GMO feed available in the current market to supply all the farmers we source from. More than 90 percent of the food grown for animals in the United States, such as corn and soy, is GMO.
If you want to ensure you are purchasing products sourced from animals raised without GMO feed, we suggest you purchase products from our Applegate Organics® line or products that feature the Non-GMO Project Verified seal, such as our natural beef hot dogs.
Organic feed (non-GMO) is much more expensive than its conventional counterpart, which is one reason why organic meat and poultry carry a higher price at the supermarket. At the present time, organic meat constitutes less than one percent of meat sales in the United States. In light of that fact, farmers - even ones who employ much-better-than-conventional practices like the ones who supply our Applegate Naturals® line - would go out of business if they relied solely on selling to people who are willing to pay for organic meat.
